UPDATE: How to register for the Spring 2020 Season. Click here
I'm writing to inform you that the Tuxedo Little League (TLL) Board of Directors has voted to merge with Suffern Little League (SLL). The decision was a difficult one. It's something that we've been weighing for many years.
There are many factors which led to this decision, but the two most significant reasons are:
1. Little League International will no longer allow TLL players to be nominated to post-season All-Stars teams. We have some exceptional players at all levels and want to give them the same opportunities that other leagues have.
2. Little League International will no longer allow Northern Tuxedo children (those that live within the Monroe-Woodbury Central School District) to legally play under TLL's charter and insurance. With this mandate, we are losing 10-15 kids to Monroe-Woodbury Little League (MWLL) and won't be able to field teams without them.
Since our original charter in 2007, we have had a good relationship with SLL, who has welcomed our teams for spring season interleague play, fall ball and softball. They are the logical choice for a league merger due to geography and history.
What does this mean for your child and the upcoming spring season?
They still have the opportunity to play baseball or softball with one of two excellent Little Leagues. They’ll play with existing and new friends and will be eligible to play on post-season tournaments and All-Stars teams.
Players who live within the MWCSD will now be served by MWLL. We have an open dialogue with MWLL and have been assured that they will accept our kids onto their teams. MWCSD has an excellent baseball program and MWLL will ensure that your child transitions well into school baseball, should you and your child decide to go that path.
The remainder of TLL will be folded into SLL in the coming weeks. Tuxedo will have seats on the SLL board and will continue to be involved in both the management and coaching of the league.
Both SLL and MWLL’s registration fees are higher than ours. For the 2020 season, TLL will be paying the difference between the registration fees for:
* Those who have already registered with TLL for the spring season, and
* Any returning player who has yet to register, but will be doing so with MWLL or SLL.
For those who have already registered that choose not to move forward with Little League at all, TLL will refund your already paid registration fees.
For those who are attending our winter training program at JustHits – the program will continue as is with Tuxedo.
More specific information will be sent out in the next few days with information on how to register with each league as well as upcoming player evaluation dates and locations.
We would like to thank everyone for keeping TLL alive for so long. We had a great 12 year run, with two Poppe Cups and one Curley Cup titles. Being a part of that is something that we’ll never forget.
Thank you to The Town of Tuxedo for its support throughout the years. Specifically, the Recreation and Highway Departments for the use and maintenance of our fields. We would also like to thank our sponsors, board members, coaches and volunteers. The league wasn’t possible without your support and dedication.
Many of you may have additional questions regarding the merger. I as well as other TLL board members are available to answer any questions that you may have. Just send an email to [email protected], chat with us on our Facebook page, or reach out to one of us personally.
